Review: Locanda Dining, Rydges Hotel, Melbourne, Australia

Locanda Dining, Rydges Hotel, Melbourne
186 Exhibition St.
Melbourne VIC Australia

Locanda Dining is located on the ground floor of Rydges Hotel Melbourne. The restaurant has a very modern semi-formal feel with carpet which nicely reduces harsh background noise so common now in busy eateries.
I was kindly hosted by GM Amy XXX, Food and Beverage Manager Andras with Michelle and her politely professional team of staff.
The menu contains such a wide selection of fresh premium Australian produce it is honestly hard to choose which dish to select. There is a two or three-course options, both reasonably priced for such high-quality fare. Guest can choose between a selection of extremely appealing entrees followed by perfectly accompanied main courses of beef, fish, chicken or vegetarian.

I chose High Country Pork belly with roasted pineapple, corn puree and brussels sprouts followed by a delicate 200g Little Creek Cattle Company Yarra Valley Eye fillet which was perfectly cooked medium rare accompanied by roasted garlic and seeded mustard. Of the huge selection of tasty sides, the brussels sprouts with walnut butter and mint plus roasted pumpkin with charred red onion, sage and goat’s cheese perfectly complimented the expertly seared tender beef.

The wine list consisted of a large selection of international and local cocktails, beer, wine and spirits. Staff were extremely well trained and knew the menu and wine list intimately.

Overall, this is Australian in-house hotel dining at its best. Sincere compliments to the Head Chef Paul Griffiths and his team in the kitchen. Rydges has made a successful effort to tempt in-house and outside guests to enjoy high quality, good value food paired with top class service – something that not many hotels consistently get right.
